January 5,2022.

Black Stars Head Coach, Milovan Rajevac, says the late arrival of some key players to camp, has negatively affected the team’s preparations towards the AFCON.

FIFA’s decision to delay the arrival of African players in Europe to their respective national teams for the AFCON has been met with a lot of frustration on the part of the African teams.

The likes of Thomas Partey, Daniel Amartey, Jordan Ayew and Idrissu Baba have all arrived with less than a week to the start of the tournament.

Milo believes FIFA should attach more respect to the African game going forward.

“That decision was unfair to Africa and the AFCON. We understand the clubs have their own interest at heart, but a tournament this size must be prioritized,” he said. “For a tournament like this, it’s important to prepare well. We initially planned to play three friendly games, but it was impossible to play the first two due to the limited squad size we had. “Even for the friendly game against Algeria, we don’t have the full compliment of the squad available. Most of them are present but some just arrived and need to rest adequately. The late arrivals have really affected our preparations,” he added.

Ghana will face Algeria on January 5 in a friendly game in Doha, before taking on Morocco in their opening game of the AFCON on January 10.
